Our Cabana (re-furnished and rearranged)

I've been having fun rearranging the furniture in my cabana and getting it ready for lots of lazy days by the pool.

I had to exchange my Restoration Hardware outdoor Provence wicker pieces. Here's the before:

The sofa blocked the fireplace from the spa (picky husband) and the low backs on the Provence collection made the chairs uncomfortable. I kept the dining pieces from the Restoration Hardware Provence outdoor collection, but the rest had to go back. sigh....

Did you know that outdoor wicker smells like plastic when the pieces are under the sun (even in winter)? Unpleasant side effect for such pretty pieces. Especially since Austin, Texas is known for 300+ days of sunshine.

I am very pleased with the new bronze furniture from Ballard. The shutter cabinets and umbrellas are from Restoration Hardware and the garden stools are from One Kings Lane. Still dreaming of a rug and outdoor drapery. One day...

welcome back to Austin, Matthew McConnaughey!

Matthew and his soon-to-be Mrs. have moved their family to the Rivercrest neighborhood in a gorgeous three-story, 10,800-square foot home with 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. Priced at $4M, the home is gated with 8.75 acres and has beautiful views of Lake Austin. I've heard that his airstream trailer is seen out front often. If only I was his neighbor, I would surely take up jogging to get a glimpse! Now, as far as the home design goes, I hope to see the updated interior redecoration in the pages of Austin Monthly soon!

Austin Artist: Kyle Bunting Collection at Gump's

I love to read success stories about local Austin artisans. Kyle Bunting is everywhere these days. I first heard about him from Karen Hall Designs. A couple of weeks ago, my sister pointed out one of his hide rugs featured in an Austonian show house living room.

Now, San Francisco design shop Gump’s will be offering an exclusive limited edition collection of furniture and art from the renowned Austin-based designer Kyle Bunting.

Bunting, who made his name with collaborative collections of cowhide rugs, wallcoverings, and upholstery created a series of screens, ottomans, and tables available in unlimited pattern and color variations for his Gump’s collection. Gump’s will also be featuring a group of six four-by-five foot hanging art pieces made of highly detailed cowhide by Bunting and his team.

Tour Homes in Austin's Most Coveted Neighborhood This Weekend

18th Annual Heritage Homes Tour

10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Heritage Society of Austin is very excited to announce “Livin’ in River City”, the 18th annual Heritage Homes Tour. This year’s tour will explore how the lower Colorado River shaped the development of West Austin.

Six architectural gems will tell the story of Austinites beating the summer heat by retreating to fishing cabins and summer homes near the river, which eventually evolved into the Tarrytown neighborhood.

Tour highlights will include fascinatingly unique stone homes on Scenic Drive which began as fishing cabins, including one where Robert Redford spent his youthful summers.
